As always busy at work. Doing a little bit of Coyote calling. I did not draw a deer tag this year so I am really looking forward to the waterfowl season. I am hoping to get after some hogs this fall, as soon as the acorns start hitting the ground.

Well it's to hot in NC to be doing much at all. I got a new muzzleloader for my b-day (CVA Optima .50 cal.). I've been working on finding a good load for it. My turkey season left A LOT to be desired (went without) I've been bummed-out about that for a while....but.....now i'm starting to focus on deer season and put this years turkey season behind me. I'm going tommorrow (sat.) to try a couple different loads in the new smoke pole, that will be fun.

The birds just weren't there :( .....I've got sole permission to hunt 450 acres in western NC, this land is usually holding quite a few good gobblers (not this year). I called in a pair of jakes for my brother-in-law on opening day & he took his first turkey and after that I didn't hear another gobble all season long. Other than puplic land this is the only place I have to hunt. They told me I could put in a few food plots....but....they have a lot of cows, it would be a waste of time, because the cows would just eat it all. I need to find more places to hunt (and i've tried) i've just had no luck. The public land we have is VERY mountainous so you'll work your tail off for any bird you might be lucky enough to get. I tried to talk to some of the guy's in my NWTF chapter but they are VERY MUCH to themselves. I'm probally not gonna re-up my NWTF membership because our chapter just SUCKS. I've only been turkey hunting for 3 years & what I do know about the sport I've taught myself (harvested a bird every year except this). I'm 39 years old & not interested in playing highschool type popularity games in the NWTF to get some help in the sport. I guess i'll keep on learning from DVD's & books.

drum...You may want to put up some feeders on the property. It would help pull birds into the area and you shouldnt have any problems with the cows. As far as the NWTF chapter up there I'm really sorry to hear that. I guided a couple down here about four years ago and they were some type of member of the state board committee in NC. They were great people. I'll research their name and try to shoot it to you via private message. Maybe you can contact them for some info.....
