Who out there has been out and called some predators at least once in the last year?

What is you predator calling rifle, or shotgun?

What is your GO-TO call? What call has given you the most success?

I only got to go twice but I killed one bobcat the first time and two coyotes the second time. As for what I use for a gun, I use a Bushmaster AR-15 with a red dot scope and shoot 46 grain varmint loads. I am kind of partial to the squeezin screamer for a call.

That is quite a run of coyotes. I bet the Antelope hunting was slow with that many coyotes around?

270 and 12 gauge M1 Ben. Go-to is Squeezin SCREAMER backed by a cottontail screamer or a coyote pup .

270 backed by shotty 12 gauge. depends on time of year and hunting pressure and species for calls. oh and regulations of your area. Quaker Boy Pro Staffer Dave Nicotera

for those of you using a shot gun...what loads are you using?

By the way...I'm also new at this, will be going out for the first time next week...and I've heard rumors that my wife should be concerned that I react to this like I did to Turkey Hunting! = ADDICTION!
Is there a cure?
:)

THANKS, and be safe!!

12 gauge 3.5inch mag. #4 buck or #4turkey load. depends on distance and terrain. i step up from #4 turkey to #4 buck when the pelts get thicker. remember, time of year has alot to do with what you shoot. my girl says she wishes they made a predator hunting patch like the nicatine patch to ween me off a little. lol. ...Quaker Boy Pro Staffer Dave Nicotera...

THANKS for the info (and warning) Dave!
To continue the education...under what circumstances do you use the shotgun instead of the rifle?

Joe i use shotty instead of rifle in the thick stuff and if hunting the wind you can set up to where the predator has to go a certain way to get to you and smell you for a close shot. sometimes you can make them move how you want like a chess game if you use all the available resourses like wind, land terrain, cover and concealment, etc.

Hey Yotey, I have called in a few this year and should get a few more before the year is up. I spent a lot of time doing many different types of hunting and pattern tests, but I am switching to predator hunting for the next 6-7 months, with one month at the end used for getting my 2 Toms.

My rifle of choice is my Remington Model 700 Safari Edition .257 Roberts Ackley Improved with Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10 x 50mm with long lens shade....Versa-Pod or Harris Pod to come. Shooting a combo of Hornady SST Light Mag ballistic tips and Nosler Parition Customs.
I also bring in my Benelli SuperNova, which will be equipped with a PatternMaster Long Range Choke on the way. This was recommended by Mike from PatternMaster- This guy knows his stuff and explained in detail all kinds of things about shotgun patterns. He said if I wanted the most consistent and dense patterns than to shoot the Long Range Ported Choke with 3" shells using Federal Premium Ammo. He also said that the larger the buckshot the longer the effective range with 000 and 0000 buckshot having an effective range of 80+ yards. Also with any buckshot you will get 100% pattern in a 20" circle at 40 yards and the tighter the pattern will be as you go up to the larger pellet sizes. I learned a real lot from Mike and if you ever need his number I can give it to you, I got it from Les Johnson...I am sure you know who he is since you are a die hard predator hunter.
As far as my go to call it all depends. I have to admit that my favorite predator calls are my custom set made by Nate Baker and also my Crack Howler from Crack Predator Calls but when it drops down to zero F than it is always my Super Screamer. That thing has yet to freeze up on me unlike my custom open reed calls. I always start my stand with the coaxer on my custom distress call from Baker's Best (Nate Baker) which has a great low rodent sound but if I am locating I use my Howlers. I am going to have the set of QB calls that you helped develop (Howler Pack), because after your demo I know that if you say it is good than it is!
The call I got the most kills with this year was the Super Screamer...Man I love that Call!
Thanks for your help and great way to start off the Predator Talk!
I had not gotten the Green Light so I did not start, now that I know it is on I will be recruiting as many people as possible!
Many Thanks,

Tyson

I also use #4 buck for the most part but have been leaning towards #1 buck lately to increase my range....It all depends on the terrain I am hunting and if I have my rifle with me or not. If I have the rifle it is always #4 buck!:D

I am going to try my hardest this year to call in and kill a coyote with my bow. I know a lot of people kill them from tree stands while deer hunting with their bow. But I think calling one in and killing with a bow is another level.
