Hi gang,
What hunting item(s) would you like for Santa to bring most?

I heard that! Man,it is not that far away is it? I haven't even finished unpacking from my deer trip, and it's already time to start getting the patterning range mowed!Great problem to have though.

Dear Santa:
I'm writing late to you, but I have some ideas for turkey hunters for Christmas. See if you can cook them up:
1) A cheap pair of boots that are lightweight, warm and waterproof. Is it asking too much for a turkey hunter to have dry warm feet? Every pair of boots I get are either too hot, too cold, too heavy or they leak. If they don't leak the day I get them, they're leaking by the end of the first week.
2) A mouth call safe that hold onto calls that allows them to dry out between uses. I just hate opening up my little call safe and sucking on yesterday's spit.
3) A Ben Lee Super Hen. It was a heck of a call-- can't find 'em anymore. EBAY has 'em but they're too doggone expensive.
4) A cedar scratch box-- don't know why. I'd just like one.
5) Several pair of green hunting socks that don't have red, white, or blue at the top. You'd think I was asking for the moon, going out looking for them.
6) I would like a pill that would make me smarter than a turkey for just 4 hours. After that, I could go back to being the way I am. It doesn't have to be permanent. I could take it when I get up in the morning, go out and hunt and be certain I was at least as smart as the birds.
7) I want a shotgun that I can shoot behind me. I'm sick and tired of the turkeys sneaking up my backside and standing around behind the bushes and sniggering at me.
8) A portable one-man aerial tramway that runs off 2 D-Size batteries. I'm sick and tired of chasing turkeys down into the bottoms and then having to trudge back up. I figure some carbon nanotube cable and some exotic-magnet motor and the proper gearing, I should be able to hang some pullies off the cedars on the way down and have the thing hoist me back up.
Let me know if you need details. I'll be happy to talk to the elves if they need assistance with the engineering.

Santa didn't listen. Been busy as all get-out since Christmas:
1) Found a Ben Lee Super Hen call-- I've been wanting one for 20 years. Ben Jr. is now making them
2) Traded for a Transfan gobbler decoy--- first gobbler deke I've ever had.
3) Ordered neoprene socks from Cabelas-- I'm tired of having wet feet early in the morning
4) Ordered a Flock-in-a-Box scratch box call. It's easily one of the more versatile calls I've ever encountered.
5) Placed an order with customsawing.com for the parts to make 4 new pot calls and 3 new pegs. Two are for me ( a slate and a slate/glass). I'm making matching custom slates for each of my sons and giving them each a hickory and a lucite peg.
6) Got Tom Kelly's new book The Fork in the Road-- has a 2 hour CD with it. It's aimed at 12-16 yr olds, but I'm reading it and then handing it off to Angus (9) so he can get a start.
7) Got Angus working on a wingbone call. It probably won't be a good match, but he's already awesome on a mouth call.
8) Brought out all the turkey guns and started getting them ready for season.
Still on the list:
Hit Bass-Pro and buy turkey ammo before it sells out. Find a 3-pack of mouth calls on sale and buy three--usually last me and the kids for a season.
Work on finding a mouth call case that lets the calls dry out-- I'm sick of sucking on yesterday's spit.

All the Mountain Mimicry Camo Patterns from Sitka is 1/2 off right now at Schnees. You can now get the $500+ Gear for about $250 give or take.....That is some serious savings!!! I know you guys are not all into this gear but I like it a lot and it has lasted through my harsh field testing, thought you might want a heads up....At least the cold weather hunters!

Got some sitka gear, an under shirt for my birthday. That is the stuff. I have used it to start my layering in some cold weather (-5) and I have not yet been cold. In fact I was sweating and it did a great job of wicking the sweat away. I started with the Sitka undershirt, then a lightweight cabelas fleece pullover, Then topped it with some M2D fleece.

Is it hard to get the sweat smell out of the undershirt? I have Underarmor shirts that start to get pretty funky after a while, even after throwing everything in the book at them while washing.
