How many rounds does everyone usually fire each spring in patterning sessions before the season? How many loads or chokes do you try?

I'm down to probably an average of 4 shots per year for my main turkey gun. I take one shot at 20 yards and another at 40 and decide if I need to adjust the scope any. Then I break into a new box and shoot a couple more to see if the point of aim is the same as with last year's lot.

Of course, I've been shooting the same Federal #4 3" load out of the same rig for over ten years, so it has come to be somewhat predictable. Once I know the scope has not been knocked off kilter, I can pretty well be sure I'm good for the season.

I shoot a Mossberg 500:

3" chamber
28" barrel
1.5-4.5X Bushnell Banner scope

. . . the choke is some sort of extended X-Full thing I bought from a classified ad in the back of Turkey and Turkey Hunting back before chokes developed a cult following. I have no idea who made it.

I know that all sounds kind of pedestrian, but after my first 15 years, I figured out that trying new loads, new guns and new chokes was not going to cure missing a gobbler at 10 paces, because my cheek weld was off.

I shoot about 3 or 4 shots of 3 inch Fiocchi #4 out of my factory full choke tube in my Benelli M2. That is about all I can stand anyway.....but I do 20, 40 and 50 yards to check POA and I am good to go. Don't use a scope. Just Red Dot.

Blew about 3 shells thru the mossberg 835 last week. Shooting the same loads I was last season, Winchester X-tended Range 3 1/2 #6. Everything looks to be ok and good to go. Just need a fat ole osceola at 20-30 yards on 3/15/08 at about 7am:D

What choke do you use with the X-tended Range 3 1/2 #6's in your 835??
