SO, I live in Orchard Park, NY and am hoping to shoot my first turkey this year. This will be my 3rd turkey season. They're already in my dreams...
I'm going to NC on April 12th, will be able to hunt starting the 14th if I push it or the 15th if I take my time and scout around a bit.
I have maps of the Nantahalla gamelands and am staying in Robbinsville from the 14th through the 20th. I would rather not drive the dragon into TN. Cherokee Cty looks promising.
There's a lot of game lands but I don't know what's public or private. I'm just going to do all the research I can online and through NWTF regional stuff. I've been down there twice for fishing but never in the woods.
If anyone knows who to call, anywhere to go, anything else...
Thanks,
AdamZ

The area around Mooresville/Charlotte is a very good area. There is a Gander Mtn in Mooresville that has a lot of info about the state land near there. There are plenty of neat things to doo around there, especially if you are a NASCAR fan,as 80% of the teams sall that town home.Try contacting the Gander Mtn. and see where that leads you.Nice folks there!

I live in South Western NC, half way between Charlotte & Asheville. Try this link (if it works) it's a pdf file of all the game lands in NC listed by region.

P.S. Most of the game lands in the western part of NC are VERY steep, so be in shape.

SO, are those gamelands all public access? There's even more detailed ones at that State website. What a fantastic resource that NC has put up on the interwebs.
There seems to be a ton of gameland space where I'm headed. I've hiked the Smokies way back in the day. I don't know about that kinda climbing but I'll do my best. Those fat ass NC gobblers will come down to my sweet alluring yankee yelps anyhow, right?:p

All the NC game lands are public access. Good luck with those "alluring yankee yelps" ;)

Thanks for the info. I'll be in Graham and Cherokee counties from 4-15 - 4-20.
If anyone else wants to go, I'm up for it.
