I have seen it done by professional callers who gobble on a mouthcall. Could anyone give me step by step instructions on how to do this? I think it will be a handy and entertaining skill to learn. Thanks

Hang tight, your answer will be found. There are some award winning callers on here who are great teachers as well.I'll dig some help up for you. Were you directed here from the T&TH forum,by chance?

I dont know how to gobble with a mouth call, I use a shaker call, and they really do work.
I just wanted to say welcome to the forum...
I'm sure someone on here can tell you, and I'll be waiting to learn as well, good question...

I use a shaker call as well, when I do use one at all.It is more of a "back pocket" call that I only bring out if all else fails. Most of the time I'm afraid of some overeager person stalking the sound and causing an unsafe situation.Same goes for my full strut decoy. If you are hunting private land,it is a little more comforting, but still please use caution.

Basically its just the same as producing a feed chuckle on your duck call. Hold the call in your mouth with very light pressure and then expell air in the tucka tucka tucka tucka tucka pattern...Its really simple just takes some practice. But for ease of use I would just go with a Quaker Boy Boss Gobble or a Challenging Jake, Hard to beat its realism......

I like to use your basic double reed or triple when gobbling with my mouth. I look funny doing it, I taught myself it took a lot of practice. That is what I use. Good Luck!

Another option to consider is using a "Snuff Can" type call. These calls are compact and can be used to make the full range of calls. The volume that you can get out of this call is also much louder than using a basic diaphram call when it comes to gobbling with erratic high to low authenticity.

I've tried with multiple mouth calls to figure it out but I still can't get anything that I think sounds even close to a gobble. I've used 2 calls and get about the same sound as I do with my mouth call, the problem is I get some sound but nothing that sounds like a gobble.
Wondered if you could provide more detail or, if possible, get some sound files of the gobble slowed down. The gobble is the only turkey call to elude me thus far..... very frustrated (and so's my wife of hearing me practice :o )
Thanks!

I actually gobble with my voice. I've won the Florida State Gobbling Division two times. It's been pretty effective for me in the field as well, when I use it, which is rare. I really dont know how else to explain it and do not have any sound bytes of it. It is actually pretty difficult to do....Just keep practicing, it will come. The best tip I can give you is to start slowly with you gobble. As you gain control you can pick up the speed and volume.
