I know that turkeys are on a lot of hunters minds right now,but here is something for the buck busters out there who are counting down the days till fall!
How would you rate your 2007 deer season in your state, compared to hunts in previous years? #of deer seen, quality of deer(health, bodysize),etc.

2007 in NY depends on who you talk to.In my area things seem to be getting better every year . Alot of land owners including my self are focusing alot more on QDM and its starting to show big time. Easy winters have also been a blessing .

NY has always been a destination of mine to hunt.I grew up in Pa. but never got up there.I visit some friends who have a large farm, but they said they never saw a turkey on it.They deer hunt it like crazy, but don't QDM it,so the gene pool is mediocre at best. I am going to give them a ring, and see if the turkey outlook has changed at all, since I'll be hunting Pa in May! Thanks for reminding me Rodney!lol talk to you soon.

This guy has been spamming all over the forums. In a way its good cause it brings back dead posts, but it is bad because some of the newer posts dont get enough featured time. Isnt there anyway to boot this guy?

Sorry guys, I'm still working out the bugs
I got finally him. Just keep your eyes peeled for new members with weird alpha numerical names, they are usually Spammers. I get on here twice per day to get them, so Hopfully I can keep it clean.
not a spammer just new here ;) :)
quite a few of us here in the north had a very slow rifle hunt in november nobody is sure why but we also were hunting in t-shirts the first week.
during our muzzleloader season at the first week of december things came back to normal if not better...loon

yup, I'll confrim what Loon said. Southern Ont had reduced deer numbers. We had huge amounts of additional tags implemented a few years back. It has taken a toll I believe. Thankfully they have reduced the numbers drastically. I would agree a late rut as well.
Further north in Northwestern Ont things are good it seems. Don't have to go to Saskatchewan or Alberta for true monsters anymore.
now they are talking about a january season over here  not a good idea in my opinion . what do you guys think in the states???
arent the deer carrying then?...loon

Will that be an extention to your existing season, or will it be pushed back farther? January seems pretty extreme if the deer have been getting pounded from late Fall till then ..
what we have here is a 2 week rifle hunt at the first of november then a shotgun/muzzle loader hunt for a week at the beginning of december, with bow hunting from october through the end of december.
the population exploded the last bunch of years but has "dwindled" in the last year or so.
from what i can make of it, it will be another season...loon

I can never figure out why many places make a shotgun or muzz. season AFTER a rifle season. One would think the quality of the hunt and the oppertunity would be better for these hunters if the deer weren't a little "geeked out" and paranoid from getting blasted at by modern rifles right off the bat. This extra season sounds kinda weird to me..
yes, just doesnt sound right at all.
i have no intention of doing this hunt,do not think we need it and it won't be the same as the fall hunt for sure...

Did you do ok in the previous season? It may be worth it to give it a go. Just to spend some more time outdoors. Then again, it may be best to do some stuff around the house and score points for the upcoming turkey season...:p
the november hunt was one of the worst i have hunted, seen a total of 6 deer in the 2 weeks i was in the bush with none being a shooter.
other years it would be in the 100 range, but the amount of sightings and the tracks i have seen since i think the herd is still healthy
it was just a weird november.
and if they still have their headgear i guess i might just have to give the january hunt some thought:)
the house will always be here and my wife is pretty forgiving:rolleyes:...loon

That sounds more like it. Get out there and try it first hand, so you can give important feedback on the season if it ever comes up in a survey or something..
it didnt take much for you to change my mind :D
