What is your honest opinion of the various hunting shows that are on these days? What do you like/dislike?

This thread is kinda old but wanted to put my 0.2 cents in anyhow. I used to watch hunting shows, but have lost interest in the past 4 years..most are boring and the same old rehash over and over again, with some being down right just junk. I dont even have the outdoor channel anymore. (dont mind watching average shows if they are in Florida hunting gobblers:))

However, there is one show that is bar none the best show and its called Heartland Bowhunter. I watched their entire season last year and the new season is showing now. Whats good about it, they post up the new episodes every week on their web site, www.heartlandbowhunter.com, after it airs on the network. Their editing is second to none and they archery hunt gobblers on the ground in natural cover. This the only hunting show I watch anymore and after you watch one episode, you will find all other shows to be inferior IMHO.

I'm glad you dug this one up, Tim!

I'll check this show out. One show that I have been really enjoying lately is the new Duck Commander show by Benelli. It is more than some corperate dudes at an outfitter shooting at little dots in the sky, and saying dumb things, that let you know that they only hunt one weekend per year. This show catches the spirit of the Flooded Timber. If you go to the Benelli website, the trailer is the first thing to pop up. Check it out.

The Duck Commander show is good, i watched it the other day and was impressed. They actually do the work before the hunt too and that I can relate to. Good stuff!

It's cool that they show both sides of the coin, the good and the not so good.

Have you ever watched those other lame type of waterfowling shows I was talking about? I'm sure your videos are off the chain, where can I view some of the footage?

If you mixed it up with some patterning, choke tube info, scope zero how to or some other segments like cold blue touch ups for hunting guns, how to set up your turkey vest, etc. I don't see why it wouldn't work. It would be a more vivid version of what we are doing now:D

For the meantime, you could always film segments for Youtube, build a big following, and use it to sway the money your way for a feature series...

I think a lot of hunters want that exact same show Paul. Complete instruction and tips. You see one hunting show these days, you have seen them all.

Just remember folks: You heard it here first! I don't want to see some rip off of our idea airing on the Outdoor Channel in two months:cool::p

It seems everyday i watch the outdoor channel i see people making bad shots. Also most of the tv shows they hunt over food plots. How about some shows about hunting managment areas. Theres a lot of people out there that dont have access to private land let alone the equiptment to plant food plots. Maybe thats the way its supposed to be. Why would they market to people that dont have money?

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! I had the idea before for a show called Public Land Beatdown, The idea behind the show is simple: 100% Public land hunts, where someone is going to get a Beatdown in every episode. Sometimes it will be the animals, but sometimes it will be the hunters. None of the bad stuff will be edited out, and there won't be five minutes of which "shooter" buck will be taken. There won't be any shooting sticks either, it will be offhand guns blazing. A camera would be mounted on the barrel, to catch all of the mayhem.:D What do you think?

It's all pretty wild once the camera comes into play.

I think that something gets lost in the shuffle. It is kind of cool and mysterious when you go out and have an adventure in the woods, and only the person(s) involved can explain what happened and tell the tale. I love how there is always more than one version to the "real" story. If you took a camera to Vegas, than what happend there won't really stay there;):D

If it was strickly public land you would have to hit the woods hard and do your homework. Just another idea is you could have people send in their public land hunts to win prizes for the best video. along with some of the other fill ins chad mentioned it would make for a good show.

This is 100% gold. I remember a all public land hunt turkey video from a long time ago (it was a very short video LOL). I'm at the point, where I enjoy watching folks on youtube that film their own hunts--just regular joe's w/ not all that sponsor crap being shoved down your throat 24/7. You need to get cracking on this in the spring of 2010.

I would very much rather watch this good ole boy from Miss. spine shoot a doe

Sounds like chad gots something up his sleeve. You holding out on us bro?

Not holding out, just not counting my chickens before they hatch. There's too many copycats and hoodwinks waiting in the bushes trying to get in on your action these days. So for now, I must be a tricky ninja.

Word, Paul.

I think that with the cast of charactors I have found, this deal could be something else. I'm working hard to make this happen. It's all about The Grind!

most of the hunting shows pay 100's of thousands for air time. i found that out awhile ago. sportsmans channel wants like $38,000 for like 2 years of air time. They dont get rich being on tv[most people] they get rich from promoting, like mojo decoys or something.

TrophyTracker

I'm not sure I'd want to be on TV. Most of the shows are pretty lame. I don't care so much about becoming rich, as much as I want the people to have the chance to ride over the shoulder for something done a different way. I want them to witness a real Beatdown, and say "Hey, that was pretty cool. I'd like to try it that way!" I want them to Live The Dream, like a true Grinder does:D

I am in the process of filming my hunts this year and going over gear, tips, and all kinds of things that I had to do so much research and searching for. I find most of the shows on TV so boring, like one person here said if you have seen one show you have seen them all.
I went to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and did a lot of video editing there but I went to school for 3D Animation. My true passion lies with Hunting and Shooting and the gear that works. I want to speak to the younger people and let them know that its not all about getting a "1,000" point buck, its all about the HUNT and the memories you created with friends and family. Good Game management like taking does and safe hunting. Anyways I am just going on and on but if the footage comes out nice I will post it for you guys to see.
