Opening day was a bust, I didn't see any deer, I feel due to the current moon phase. I believe they did move midday at some point. I sat till 11:00am and then back in the tree around 3:00pm. Lord please bring us a "cool" front! Although the deer movement was scarce, I did fire up a flock of hens and proceeded to work them into bow range. I got them vocal with some cutting and they were advancing as if on a string. With the birds about 30 yards and release attached, I was ready for the shot. Then right as they were about to enter a nice opening, presenting a shot they shut up and disappeared. I then found out there was a gentlemen in the tree about 75 yards from position. I'm sure some how he "spooked" the girls. Obviously I didnt know he was there......What a bummer, I was definetley excited about the idea of being able to legally harvest hens! I've always said, during the fall, any turkey is a trophy whether it be a gobbler, hen or jake. GOT TO LOVE PUBLIC LAND HUNTING!!!! Oh yeah I did see three little piglets, I mean these guys would have been great for a sandwich! I have a feeling the mother was either caught or killed. Good luck to those little guys, a redtail hawk could make a meal of the little fellows.
