A while back I read about a guy who called a nice buck in by lowering a rope from his stand with two antlers tied at the end. He was apparently able to get some added sound affect by letting them hit the ground and what not.
How many of you have a secret critter getter you like to use when nothing else seems to be productive that not a lot of people are using these days.
It could be for deer, turkey, elk, waterfowl, or anything.
Maybe you use a call diffently than intended, or you have a special scent that you use. Id like to hear your stories and anything goes.

I really don't have any secret magic tactics, but I am very superstitious about my gear. I have special underwear, socks, and Tshirts, that when worn in a certain combination always seem to bring home the meat. The problem is that the combination changes on a daily basis, so the amount of luck varies.:p
I have one turkey vest that seems to make birds suicidal..

When hunting an apple orchard this works well for me. Take a pair of scent free rubber gloves with you on your way to the stand pick up some rocks and take them in the stand with you when the deer come out if they are not close enough for a shot drop the rocks one at a time most of the time they will run over to get the "apple" and give you a good shot . Key is scent free gloves and rocks that sound like apples not to loud !

along with Rodney the same goes for acorns, beech nuts etc. good post Rodney! sometimes when hunting thick for predators ill put skunk urine out to over load their noses a little and skunks are predators too so it makes sence to the set up. coyotes eat skunks too. if it buys you more time and helps cover scent why not. certain precautions are taken not to contaminate skin and vehicle with skunk smell. ill use ziplock bag, latex gloves and always keep scent outside of vehicle by duck taping it too bumper or rack on top. ...Quaker Boy Pro Staffer Dave Nicotera...

I read this one years ago, attributed to Cuz Strickland from Mossy Oak-
Seems Cuz was bowhunting an Oak ridge that had no fewer than eighteen large trees dropping acorns at the same time. He saw a lot of deer, but all down the ridge and none close to his treestand. Next day he took a leaf rake with him and raked all of the leaves out from under his treestand leaving the acorns exposed on the bare ground. He whacked a big 8 pt that same afternoon.

Dave Thanks ! The cover scent is a great idea but i cant stand the smell of skunk it brings back some bad memories ! When i was younger i had a problem with picking up skunks by the tail and moving them around when we were coon hunting. A friend of my fathers taught me this and assured me as long as their back feet are off the ground you will never get sprayed ! The thing about it is what goes up must go down and all it takes is that one skunk that does not run away and sprays ya ! That was the last skunk i gave a ride and i would dare bet those clothes still stink !!!!!!!!!!!!

I picked up a mouse squeaker made by Knight and Hale and it sounded like the inside of a dog toy. Really loud and way too deep sounding, no high pitched squeaks like a mouse. When I go out squirrel hunting I will take it and squeeze it in 1 second intervals for about 20-30 seconds than I will put it between both of my hands and pump as fast as I can. This creates the sound of a chattering red squirrel. 9 times out of 10 I will get an immediate response and be able to locate the tree that the squirrel is hiding out in and take it down. Makes for some really fast paced hunting with a call that was made for something else entirely.
Anyone have an opinion about the QB mouse squeaker, same deep notes or is it a really high pitched squeak like it should be? Would really like a realistic mouse squeaker.

I park a long ways from where I hunt, so I always have a long walk, during the rut I always take an old bandana soaked with some Tinks 69 tied to a string and tie it around my boot, then I tie it to a tree limb when I get to my stand. So any roaming Buck will pick up the sent and head my way.
Last year after doing this I noticed the next day fresh scrapes on the trail I used to walk to my stand.

That's crazy, I didn't know bears will seek out a mouse. I wouldn't mind taking a black bear with a bow. it sux we can't hunt them down here. They are all over the place in the ocala national forrest.

Its a tease, but as Hunters we are the Protectors and Visionaries of Wildlife Conservation. Without us those bears wouldn't be running around in such high numbers. Protected lands are Great! Are their land plots outside of the protected area that you can hunt Bear or is there no hunting season for Bear in Florida? If the numbers are as high as you lead me to believe it won't be long before management is needed.

I was messing around with that Knight and Hale "mouse" squeaker this morning while I walked the dog to see if I could get any responses from the squirrels in the woods and when I came back inside my friend Kath said "Did you hear those damn red squirrels they were going nuts! They are so lucky we are in town or I would be out there with my gun!"
I started laughing my butt off as I started squeaking the "mouse" call, she was blown away that it was me the whole time! Heck now I'm fooling people! HAHA!
Def give this a try if your into hunting squirrels!
Can anyone tell me if the QB Mouse Squeaker is super high pitched? I am looking for the highest pitched mouse squeaker available and want to stick with QB calls because I do find them to be the best. Really looking for that "kiss" sounding squeak..Really high pitched.

Far as i know it is illegal to hunt bear anywhere in the state of florida. Thats funny you fooled your friend. you should have waited a little while to tell her, could have called in the house and told her one got inside. :D
