So what's everyone using for duck/goose calls? I just replaced my old lanyard and took a pic of my new set-up

As far as duck hunting goes I believe in the KISS theory
I use a the following:
- Primos Power drake whistle
- Echo double reed call for reaching out there to them
- Gardner Double Nasty for chatting up close and personal
- Foiles Meat Grinder for goose calls - nice call if I can learn how to use a single reed (I should be set for next season:rolleyes:)

This is the sore spot for me John. I can not duck call no matter how hard I try or who even trys to show me. Now on another hand the QuakerBoy Wingmaster goose flute is a different story, I can make that puppy go and even keep up with some of the Top brand names in Goose calls ;)

I had an old wooden flute that someone gave me when I started duck/goose hunting and I could make noises with it - not actual calls......more like noises. After some time and instruction I was able to string together enough note to get a greeting call out of her. Once I got better and started whacking geese with it I started to gain some confidence - which you know definitely helps the calling.
So when I finally decided to get a new goose call I contact Taz, and a couple of other guys from OHL to get some recommendations and a lot of guys said to start with a single reed. Their reasoning was not that flutes were bad......the opposite actually.......flutes have killed many of thousands of birds, but due to their design they were limited on what you could do with them, but they were easier to learn on. If I started with a new flute and became an OK caller and then decided to go to a single reed I would be learning all over again - so I might as well just start with a single reed.
Is it easy to use.....definitely not. But once you get a feeling on where the reed breaks you can make a variety of sounds and sound like more than one goose. I learned my lesson well with photography and turkey hunting - buy once......buy right. I opted from a cheaper goose call and bought a Foiles. It is not an Acrylic but it is built very nice and sounds great. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to it but I can now call better on this than I did on my older call.
But then again I always think I sound good until I hear someone that can call well and I think.......crap what have I been doing. Much like when I go turkey hunting with you:p.
