Just thought I'd mix things up a bit and ask a non-turkey question!:D
What is your favorite species of waterfowl to hunt?

I love any duck or goose hunting, but if I had to pick my favorite, it would have to be ducks in flooded timber. Jim

I'm with you on that one! Something about the sound of gunshots bouncing off of the trees, the limbs falling, and the challenge of shooting between the trees gets my blood pumping! Jump-shooting wood douck in the swamp bottoms is one of my favorite ways to spend a morning, I just wish the limit was higher!:p

For me it's Canada Geese, that has been my #1 game for alot of years now. I like the ducks and all that too but to me a flock of honkers coming in across your decoys at an elevation of 5 feet and dropping cannot be matched!

I had a blast(pun intended) hunting geese in the cornfields that border The Delaware River on the Pa. side this past December. Watching them fly in and listening to them is Magical!

Love calling in those big birds, but the thud just is'nt as exciting as the splash:)
Although, a comfortable layout blind in the field sure has it's advantages over those cold morning icy water hunts. Much easier on the dog & equipment also. I definitely will be spending more time in the fields this year. Must be getting old! Jim

I have to agree with Jim. Ducks in flooded timber just can not be beat. Let me set the scene for you and you be the judge. If you have never witnessed mallards and blacks circling, pitching, diving and dodging tree limbs you have not lived as a waterfowl hunter. These birds are amazing to watch as they work their butts off to get into the slot. I mean these birds get upside down to drop altitude, cut right and left to dodge tree branches and often times they have to take 3 or 4 attempts at it.......just to be met by some Kent Fasteel. It is truely poetry in motion. Hard to beat IMHO.

Big ol canada geese gliding across a snow covered corn field into your spread. To me it doesn't get any better.

The best to me are Canada's. As said nothing like them when they are right in your face locked out for their final landing!

I have to say my type A personality prefers to hunt ducks. I think it is because there is usually more flight/action in the duck hunting I do. When duck hunting, my friends and I usually put some stake in it.
For example, shooting hens could cost you a few dollars, or shooting a spoonie may cost you breakfast. Or the last one to fill his limit may have to buy dinner. On one occasion shooting a banded duck could have even cost you $25.00. My buddy and I went 2 years and at least 100 ducks between us without shooting a banded duck. We decided that if you "finally" shot one you had to pay the other guy $25.00!
But don't get me wrong. Having a flock of snows, Honkers, or specks set up on my decoy spread has led to many hours of enjoyment:)

Does anyone know when they plan to release the 2009/2010 Waterfowl season dates? Every year it is a crapshoot. Now that we have some hard core w/f hunters on here, maybe someone has that secret hook-up:D
