I am considering a change from Carbon Express arrows. I have been using them every since I started archery hunting. This is purely from a financial standpoint. I have never had any complaints with them, but I am not sure I need to pay the price?

What kind of arrows do you use? Why?

Paul,
As always I respect your input and knowledge. Thanks for the advice. I will be looking into it.

I have been shooting the Beman ISC Hunters for a while; Its the only brand the local pro shop carrys all the time. They have held up well and I forgot the price, but they are affordable. Just started flectching my own arrows a few weeks ago and switched to the Blazer vanes this year. I'm due for a another baker's dozen and will probably look for some cheaper priced arrows since I'm doing my own fletching now. Let us know what you end up going with and give us a review.

I'm actually gonna give the BPS Redhead Carbon Fury arrows a try soon...At $59 for a dozen fletched w/ blazers, how can you go wrong??? My archery budget is shrinking w/ 2 kids now, so I have to cut back and go the cheap route. I think BPS puts these on sale every summer according to Chad H.

Just make sure you use the Blazer wrap. I just started shooting some with 4" vanes this week, and the vanes are falling off the shaft already. Upon inspection, it is clear that there is NO glue under the vanes, contacting the shaft, but only along the sides:eek:

Chad dont give up on vanes it could have been a bad batch or check to see if something is making them fall of other than lack of glue . You can also put a dab of super glue on both ends of the vanes this will help keep them in tact and get alot of extra life out of them . Sometimes pro shops will do this but not always especially if they are being mas produced !

I am shooting the CarbonFury arrows with 4" standard vanes. These are a Redhead product, which if you remember, also were the brand of my 100% waterproof, leaking snakeboots..lol

I took eight arrows out yesterday, with the intention of seeing how long I could go before losing another vane. I shot five to start with. The first arrow went dead center and the next two were pretty close. I went to pull my arrows and out of the five only the first one still had all three vanes pointing towards the tip end, while the others had at least one hanging down towards Davey Jone's Locker:p

A couple of nights ago I did what you just reccomended Rodney, with another five of the same arrows. These stayed intact front and back, but came undone in the middle.

I have just been putting time in at the bench with my jig, and am re-fletcching ALL of them with my own vanes. It's more rewarding to have that personal bond with your arrows anyway....:D

I have contacted BPS/RH about Quality Control, and am looking forward to a response.

I'm shooting a properly tuned NAP Fall-Away rest. This is happening with no physical rest contact:eek:

I have came to 2 different conclusions:

1). Those Carbon Furys are fletched by some machine and the fletching sucks(nuttin a little Blazer Helix Jig cant fix:))
or
2). You be shooting a 600 fps bow and the vanes just cant stay on the shaft:D

It's various vanes.

When you take them out of the box, brand new, all you have to do is push on a vane with a little pressure, and it peels right off the shaft. They look like the glue was just brushed on the outer edge of the vane with one of those little paintbrushed from a kids water-color book. There is zero glue on the shaft or vane on the inside groove that runs up the middle. I'm fixing the prob with some Fletch-Tite Platnum.

I'm shooting some Terminator arrows for the time being, while I have daylight, and working on the others in my shop after dark.

Oh yeah, I read about that new "break away" fletching. It is designed so that when you shoot a deer they come off and mark the point of impact. Did you have to pay extra for that dozen? If not you stole 'em bro! :p

If you ever run across some Pine Ridge Instant glue give it a shot. It is cheap as dirt and sticks like nobody's business. Best glue I've ever used and NO they don't send it to me for free.:D

Look out for the FOB Mob:rolleyes:

I will have to keep a eye out for that "on da cheap" pine ridge instant glue

Paul,

Those dudes that get all kinds of stuff for free, and pitch that stuff, drive me crazy! What a bunch of posers:D

Ive been trying to do some research on what arrows i should be shooting. The bow says 420 grain min with the draw weight at 70. If the draw weight is turned down, i should be able to shoot a lighter arrow??? Also, When looking at the arrow selection charts at draw length do i go by amo draw length or the length of the arrow after it gets cut down? Which with my rest would be closer to true draw length. Also I read that the 4" vanes are better at stabilizing broadheads than shorter ones. Unless your using mechanical broadheads then the shorter fletching is alright.

Thanx for the reply chad. I was shooting 4560's out of my other bow. Looks like i should be alright. I was messing around with it the other day. I got some fine tuning to do, but im hitting the target at 20 30 and 40 yrds. I dont want to move stuff around to much cause by the time i get a chance to shoot im dead tired and its usually me throwing everything off.

Word. Only shoot when you are rested, and make sure you warm up your arms, shoulders, and neck before shooting by stretching and doing arm rotations for a few min. This will eliminate the shaking that kills any chance of shooting for keeps! It may look goofy to others, but trust me, it makes a BIG difference:)

I was looking at fletching last night and it looks like a lot of people are having good luck shooting 2" blazers through a Wb. Ive decided to give them a try and ordered a bohning helix jig, 50 2" blazers, and 2 12 packs of arrow wraps. Gonna give my terminator arrows a custom look. Im kinda getting into this archery stuff, atleast until gun rolls around ;) Check out ebay for wraps and fletching. I got 24 wraps total for like 5 bucks, and 50 vanes for 13 dollars.

David,
I burned up some Cabelas money last year on some Stalker Extreme shafts they sell. I think they are made by Easton? Bought two dozen, built them myself and they fly perfectly for me. I whacked 6 or 7 deer with them last year and had no complaints out of them. I think they're like $50 a dozen for the bare shafts. ;)

I ended up going with the Stalker Xtreme's. I will be shooting them from now until I get another itch. They are shooting well for be at the range. I will use them on game come Feb for a pig hunt.
