is a mossberg 500 enough for turkeys at 50 yards?i use to own a mossberg 835 ulti mag 3 1/2 inc shell,but gun was destroyed in fire,:( .im having a quqker boy rep come here to hunt with me this spring,dick anderson has givin me inspiritation not to quit chasing gobblers since my accident,anyway is my mossberg 500 a good shotgun?ty david barrows

I used a Mossberg 500 for three years till i bought my 835, it worked well for me.

A Mossburg 500 is fine for turkeys as long as you have a good choke in it and some good shells to shoot through it. Now if it's a Persuader or some other kind of tactical shotgun that doesn't take a choke I would not use it because odds are you are going to cripple and scare alot of birds. Good luck this spring and don't let your injury keep you out of the woods.

I've hunted with my scratch-n-dent bin Mossy 500 for over 10 years. I love it. It's not the purtiest gun on the rack, but it kills gobblers. 50 yards? That depends on your load and your choke. I shoot #4 Federals and use a turkey choke that I've had so long I forget who made it. It will work out to fifty, but if I wanted to have a steady diet of 50 yard shots, I'd switch from lead shot to one of the fancier new alloys.
