hay Chad, yah i hunt crow but here in New York the season starts in sept. and you can only hunt them on fridays , sat. ,sundays, and mondays only. i dont know about summer hunts cause we cant hunt them that time of year. A good friend of mine Brian Downs has a predator talk cast show every other sunday. he just had a pro crow hunter on his show. if you go to www.predatortalkcast.com you can join and listen to past shows. and during live shows you can call in and ask questions and win prizes. Byron South is coming on his show and Randy Anderson. Les Johnson has already been on and is returning. we[Quaker Boy] are now a sponsor for his show. some good stuff.

Thanks for the info, sounds like some good stuff!

When I was just starting out in Pa. the crow season was similar to yours, in weekends only, with the exception of it was open year round. I wanted to hone my craft of being a killer, so crows became my tool because of their availibility. I used my shotgun to wingshoot sometimes, as well as my .22 on days I wanted to coax them to the ground. My favorite stunt was when I made little crow decoys out of cardboard and set them out in a field near a bush where I would wait in a bush with my recurve. I would use my old Lohman wooden crow call to lure them down, and dispatch htem with a blunt tipped arrow. Man that brings back some memories!:D

It is always fun to look way back at some of the stuff we did when we were just Greenhorns! lol

it's good to go back and remember the green horn days cause we tend to get away from the basics sometimes. Plus there are some good laughs !

I have a special frying pan that I use to fry up the crow breasts and then feed the neighborhood foxes with. It's pretty cool to see them pigging out on the back porch!

Hey all, Here in Vermont we have a split season on crows it April and August. Also have a recipe for crows if anyone is interested.
6 crow breasts 2 cup carrots, sliced
1/2 cup flour 1/2 cup celery, chopped
bacon drippings 1 cup green pepper, chopped
1 cup onion, chopped salt and pepper
1 garlic clove, chopped
1/2 cup dry red wine

Roll crow breasts in flour and brown in bacon drippings. After browning, add onion and garlic.Saute. Add wine and cook 30 minutes with cover on.Add carrots, celery, and green pepper. Salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook for another half hour. Add more water to pan liquid to make a tasty gravy. Serve over rice with buttermilk biscuits and a lettuce salad if desired.

From the pages of NAHC Wild Game Cookbook...........Enjoy

Here in minnesota our crow season from july to november or anytime they are commiting or about to commit damage. So pretty much anytime you see one. I use a Johnny stewart prey master call with 6 crow decoys and one owl. They will come in and dive bomb the owl decoy. You shoot one and hit the crow in distress call and almost everytime the rest will turn around and come back for more.

Crow is now open in N.Y. [ OPENED SEPT. 1st]. went out the other day and set up crow decoys and owl. started caling on two quaker boy cranking crows and a crow fight with foxpro. 3seconds into call about 10 crow came. i shot three times with three crow falling from the sky. Second set up we saw crow in a field and got out to sniper them with m-4 assault rifle but they flew. Started calling with cranken crow and they came back and i shot 2 more. Not a bad 2 set ups. Third and fourth set ups they came but flared. My partner got seen pulling on them. I explained to pull up only when they are real close.

Yeah Crow Hunting is fun stuff, smart birds for sure. I would never eat one though, they eat rotten animals all day long, but there is a bounty on them, not much - $5 a bird, don't really know why people buy the stuffed crows...haunted houses maybe???
Good Times though..Split Season up here in Maine.
