My field of bow choices has been narrowed down to these choices...

Mathews DXT, Mathews Switchback, Bear Truth 2, PSE Bow Madness XS, and the Gander Mtn. Tec Series by Bowtech.

Is anyone shooting any of these bows? Thoughts/suggestions?

You are not making this easy on yourself, are you?

I have shot both the Truth II and the Switchback. Both have the smoothest draw, nice valley, and a good soild wall.

I'm partial to Bear mainly because they make good bows at affordable prices and they are close to the house for any issues that come up...Their customer service has been great also.

I saw that Gand. Mount. bow at the Ocala shop a few months ago, but could not get anyone to the archery section to take a few shoots.

Do any of the bow companies have booths set up at the Big Buck Expo?

None of the companies will be there for some odd reason. The first year that I went there, High Country was there and that is where I got turned on to their bows and company. I bought a bow at the show and have been shooting their stuff ever since. I never had a bow company call me a week after buying a bow, and ask me how I liked it, and if I was happy with it.

Solo Archery will be set up there. They have lots of mathews and Hoyt bows usually.

Gander Mtn. in Lake Mary has a MUCH better archery Pro-Shop. Those guys I would almost bet you, would drive to your house with a bow to let you check it out..:D

Paul,
Where is the best/closest Hoyt dealer in the Ocala/Gainesville area?

I might have to check that place out. I see them advertised all the time. Looks pretty rad. Thanks

Just a FYI, the 3D shoot in Lakeland is a No-Go. It was a misprint in the Woods n Water add. It will be at the Greensboro Nc. show the following week. I am seriously bummed.

Well gang, with a little gentle nudging, I decided to get serious and go with Hoyt:) I didn't get an Alphamax, but I did get a rad Powermax. I am looking forward to putting it through it's paces!:D There were some factory guys at The Big Buck Expo that I hung out with, and they hooked me up with the Super Set-up!

It is a Powerhawk, and I am stoked!

I have this thing almost ready to go, but the only thing I'm fighting is the fact that the cable on my Quicktune rest won't clear the Tec Riser, so I'm going to have to choose another rest(which I'm not too keen on).

Tim, what rest is that in your shooting form pics? I like the way it is attatched to the cable..

TrophyTracker

My rest is the QT 2000 with the real coated cable. I have two of them, and they have served me well over the last couple of years. The cable attatched to the cable slide, and that is where the contact is going on, between the cable guard and the rest itself, where the back part of the riser comes down.

I was ideed thinking actually of running some cord through the same hole on the rest that the cable is in now, and fastening it to the buss cable. I may do just that tonight after work. Tinker time!:D

Took me a little while to figure out wth you guys were talking about. I got a whisker bisquit on my old bow. I like not having to worry about the arrow falling off. The only thing that bothers me is my vanes get ruffled a bit, but supposedly it doesnt bother it. I sometimes wonder whether or not the rest affects the fps. Ive never used a drop away rest so i really cant compare.

Paul is right..its a Ripcord. Had that rest for almost 2 years now and went out this evening and was blind bail shooting and the rest stopped dropping???..Gonna call Ripcord in the morning to see whats up. Feels like the spring or whatever is inside is making a odd noise and hanging up a little. Checked the football cable connection and it has not moved (got it marked) on the string. My next rest will be the QAD fall-away.

Wheres the photos of the powerhawk gimmick?!?!

I'm gonna wait till I get the rest hooked up, so you can see it in it's natural state:D

Thanks man, I'm hitting the range hard over the next two days to go through the initial break in, and then Sunday starts the real deal.:D

Dude, you missed out on some killer deals down there. They had Limbsaver bows down to $400, '08 PSE x-Force bows for $350-$400, new Bear Truth 2's for $400, Mathews Reezens and Monsters for $750-$800, and many other deals. Sunday was the day the prices started to fall

I bet that is the ticket. I was looking at the Pro-fit side plates that are available for it, just to customize it a little. They are just two little slivers of laminated wood. You prob. have to get a bank loan to buy them though...:D

Nice bow dude! That rest looks killer. Way to the rock the 3 pin truglo. Thats what i got but mines not camo. What are you gonna set your pins at?

TrophyTracker
07-16-2009, 01:23 PM
Thanks Sam,

The sight had six pins, but I removed two of them b/c it just made it too confusing trying to sort out the action in the heat of battle. The three remaining pins are set at 20,30, and 40yds.

This bow isn't going to see the woods though, it is only for shooting 3D shoots in the bowhunter class, and training at home. My High Country 4 runner will continue with the hunting duty.

Chad, i got my rest, sight, and I used a metal D loop knock thing on the bow instead of string nocks. Just need to get my peep setup. Do i have to tie it or can i put string nocks on it? I think im supposed to tie it, but then i gotta run to ocala to get the string. I have one of those golden key futura tuning kits. I lined my rest up with the marks you had on there and used the L rod thing for the left and right alignment. Should be close i guess. Ill find out when i shoot it. Its a little on the heavy side, but definately a step up from my old bow.

That Hoyt will get a workout in the two pop-up 3D shoots coming up. I have a practice routine that is timed and simulates the frantic pace of the P/U shoot, and it got a little wild trying to sort through the pins. I didn't even want to go with a multi pin sight, but it is required for the class that I'll shoot in..:(

You can serve the peep on with dental floss. You don't need the fancy stuff to tie it down. You can also call Nordic's in Wildwood, and find out if Lee Vernon will be there on Fri, or Sat. He can serve it on for you for almost nothing. Once you shoot that thing and see how it rips, you will forget the extra weight, dude:)

I like the metal loop, i see what your saying about it adding weight to the string and flying forward and all. I had a tied loop on at one point and it came untied while i was drawing my bow back. Kinda scared me that it could come untied. I guess if i had someone professional tie it that might not happen. Ill run down to nordics and see if i can get some string for my peep. I forgot that place was down there.

I watched a whitetail hunting video once where they shot at moving deer bowhunting. They conditioned themselves with several routines. I remember one of them they rolled a tire down hill with a ballon in it. They shot longbows. Although unethical it was a pretty interesting video.

The class is the bowhunter class. I guess I should have explained a bit better.:o

It said that you had to use fixed pin sights, but I like using sights like the Range Rover, that move and adjust to the different yardages. The guy running the event told me I couldn't use it unless I had some kind of tourney-lock on it, but that would be useless. I just went with a fixed pin TG Xtreme sight to increase my odds and cut down on one step that could hinder my performance.

TrophyTracker

Ha,ha,ha,ha:D

It's all good though, I had them send me a sight that would represent what the majority of bowhunters would be using to hunt with anyway, so after the events, I can display my set-up at my booth and let people check it out.

The sight is not even a problem anymore, the arrowrest is starting to take over that role. I shot some really tight groups today in the first test, but the Nap QT 360, is still on the fence on if it is going back to the store or not...

What is the prizes for the 3-D Shoot at the BPS Classic?, other than braggin rights

TrophyTracker
07-17-2009, 01:40 PM
Tim, I really don't know. I know there is a cash payout if there isn't enough people to fill out a division, but the rest is product.

I never worry about prizes until they are being handed to me. Taking people to Beatdown City IS my prize! They could be giving away a Toyota Tundra for all I know, and it would matter the same to me as a $50 gift card. It's about going all Benny Hinn on some kats and letting "The Fire fall down on the children":D

In all honesty, it's that feeling you get when you work so hard practicing, tinkering, and pure grinding, and put it all together to go head to head with others who do the same in their respective places. It is the feeling of doing your best, or even letting yourself down and knowing you just have to work harder.

It is like a calling contest in preparation, with the exception that you are not at the mercy of people behind a curtain using personal opinions to determine who sounds the most like a turkey, duck, etc. There is a clear winner and a clear loser in this deal. You either bring it or you don't, and there is no one else to blame at the end.

Backyard Brawls are just the ticket! That is part of what makes archery so awesome! From the backyard to Vegas, Don't sing it, bring it!:D
