Duck Boat Motor

I have a 12' jon boat that I want to use a 15 hp outboard on. I am unsure if this would be safe or not. It is an older boat and does not have a metal tag that says what is the maximum size motor on it. Anyone out there know if this motor would be acceptable?

It should be able to take a 15hp outboard. I used to run a 20hp Mud Buddy longtail on a 1542 G3 rivited jon and had no issues. My rig would do about 17 mph on average.

You should be alright man. How thick is the transom? DO you leave your motor down when you transport your boat? Ive been told leaving the motor propped up when your going to your fishing hole plays hell on the transome.

need to check the transom for sure to see if it is thick enough
