I have never seen or tried the earth scent ones, but I will swear by the ThermaCell as a great piece of necessary equipment during the early season and spring turkey season for sure. I won't leave home without it.

The Earth Scent is pretty awesome. It works as a cover scent and repellent in one. I put my clothes in the back of my truck with the ThermaCELL running and close the topper. By the time I get to the woods, they have a nice dirt smell, and the bugs are nowhere to be found when I open that door.

Sounds like a good plan right there.

I could barley find the regular Thermacell packs at the local wally world...One was sold pot and had to go to Sumter County (Bushnell) to get some. They are in high demand right now I guess....Still have not laid eyes on that earth scent pad anywhere

Gander Mtn. had a ton of them. If you are going to be over this way this week, let me know. I'll give some to my wife, and you can stop by the store and pick them up.

lol Its good to get them while the getting is good. I played hell trying to get refills last year. I got like 2 butanes and maybe 10 pads left. If you have pads left over they sell butane refills in the hair care department. Just look for the curling irons, they should be around them. They are made by conair.

Found this video on youtube on how to make a thermocell cartridge refillable. Think i might give it a try. Figured someone else might want to try it out also.

That's pretty sad that people have come to do this. The next thing you know, people will be cutting their mats in half as well to make them last twice as long. As a representitive of ThermaCELL, I'd be irresponsible if I didn't say "Don't try this at home!"

Thats a great idea Chad! :p J/K. I like the idea of the cartridge being refillable. Im not really sold on the reppellent he was using in part 2. Some people just cant afford to buy refills these days. Maybe one day thermocell will make a refillable cartridge. They could install ends on them that only thermocell brand refill bottles would fit on it. To keep the money in the company.

Its a really good market they got going on their. Selling a product that you will always have to buy another product from them to work. They could have easily incorporated a permanent refillable butane bottle into the design.

I do agree with you though. It is sad. If everyone were to do this they would lose a lot of money which would put people out of jobs among other things.

However, i dont believe its illegal. Also it is dangerous messing with pressurized bottles!

There's a lot of liability here. It could get ugly if someone got hurt, or burned down a few 1000 acres. Cutting the mats in half is an old trick. The best thing that I tell people to do is, to run their unit in their trunk, tool box, or truck cap with their hunting jacket, hat, vest, etc. in there, and let the vapor soak into the fabric. Thiss will keep bugs away for a good while by itself. It also allows you to turn your unit off for extended periods of time, thus conserving butane.

I find that J/C, if I run my TC on stand until the bugs are gone, I can shut it off for about 30 min, before they slowly start coming back. When you add up all the 30 min segments, you can save what amounts to a whole cartridge per week. I've tested this. Check it out!:)

I haven't tried running it in the truck. But i do let it run for a little on the stand and shut it off. Sometimes i wont even have to turn it back on! I do also use a mosquito spay, used to be the 99 percent deet in the red and white bottle, but i think they took it off the shelf. Ive been using another spray that has deet in it and it says sport something or other on it. The refills are a little expensive, but if you conserve they do last a while. I can get 2 or three half day weekend hunts out of 1 bottle and a couple pads.
