What's everyone using for cover scent and what routines do you use to stay scent free?

I wash my clothes in HS scent free wash, and store them in those giant Zip-Lock bags during the off season, and use spray to help neutralize the odors I pick up on my way to the spot I plan to hunt. As far as being on stand goes, I use ThermaCELL earth scented mosquito mats, and Skoal Edge Wintergreen:cool:

Had a doe come within 10 yards of my blind last year (during archery) sniffing the trails end trophy leaves that I hung up. Years ago I used some tinks 69 in GA and it did nothing, plus it smells like rotten you know what.

As far as scent control, I do what Chad does basically, wash the cloths in the scent free crud and place into a bag. I use the field spray and it cools you down when its hot. Got one of those large HS deluxe scent bags last year on sale at Wally world for dirt cheap. I dunno if any of this helps at all, but wont by that carbon junk. Always wear rubber boots.

I might try that Dead Down Wind scent-free products this year if wally world has it this year.

What the heck is Skoal Edge?!?!..You need to get on the grizzly train bro

Grizzly is just that, my man:p

Edge takes the edge off like no other for me:D I can't count how many people's lives were spared from me taking a pinch instead of putting them on The PainTrain

No train for me, im still riding the marlboro mans horse.

I wash my clothes with the scent wash scent and use the big ziplock bag as well. Usually ill wash everything a week before opening day then let them sit outside a day or two spray em down with scent spray and bag em up. I didn't know they had an earth scent skeeter pad. Ill have to keep an eye out for them. My buddy and I were planning on going in on a case of refills. I used the Primos xp earth blend last year and that's some serious stuff. Just make sure you get the earth blend flavor and not the other. The other smells like carbonated water or something.

I need a new ziplock bag this year. I kept all my tinks and deer dander and other scents in the same bag last year along with my special deer away concoction I made. -note to self- adding half a bottle of ground cloves to deer dander does not work.

Im not sure of all the hype on tinks and other attractants. I've never had any luck. I think that stuff only works on t.v. or up north. I tried the ruttin sticks last year. I had a buck a doe and a yearling come in at the same time feeding through and they didn't seem to be affected by it by any means. Although it did burn out 5 min prior to them coming in. the buck stayed by himself also and went off in a diff direction than the other two. First rack buck I've ever seen.

Gander Mtn. in Lake Mary just recieved a shipment in prep. for my seminars next month at the archery event, so that means they have them in their warehouses. They were a smash at the Big Buck Expo, and none of the dealers that were there even knew they existed. They are pretty tight!

From another forum, bowhunters.net or something like that I read into a link from a company called Atsko, I used their sno seal in my hiking days and that wax boot sealer they had.
Well, they did a lot of science stuff into scent, deer vision etc and I took it all in hook line and sinker.
Google it, read it, you won't be disappointed.
I also read into a pill called NULLO they had advertised which was invented for nursing homes. It is mostly chlorophyll and some kind of oxide that kills stink bacteria inside your body. The benefits for a nursing home are obvious. The benefits for hunting are fabulous. Over Thanksgiving vacation last year I didn't shower for 3 days, I asked my beloved wife to give me a smell and she said I wasn't stinky at all. That was my own experiment with the stuff.
I do not work for either of those companies, their stuff is inexpensive and worked for me. There's online stores that sell it for cheaper.
Read on...
Last year, opening day early archery , I got to my bow stand area pre-sunrise and I swear I was only 12 yards from a herd of deer. I ducked down then I took over an hour going the final 8 yards on the ground, then standing up next to my tree like an inchworm, and climbing up along the side on the sticks. Upon sitting up there on stand about 10 feet up, I counted 13 deer. 4 of them walked off after finishing their mornin' munchin' right under me across my entry trail . They had no clue I was there, no response, no sniffin around. I felt like a stealth sniper. So the rest of them were all eating breakfast whilst I picked out my lunch:D.
3 bucks, all young uns, the rest does and yearlings. When they started walking away, I waited to see if big Daddy was coming or not. Upon not seeing big Daddy, I loosed one through the last doe in line. Hit her a bit high ended up slicing the tenderloins in half and that big artery down the spine. She took 2 steps and fell right there. I waited another hour for big Daddy who never showed up. I had to get my lunch in the cooler. He showed up another day during archery and My uncle tagged him later on in gun season. That's in another post...
I attribute the stealth to Atsko wash and UV killer on my clothes and Nullo in my gut. Read the labels do what it says, it works. Gotta watch the Nullo, though, too much gives you the Hershey squirts. I take a full pill in the AM for the month before archery starts, then a full in the AM and a halfer at night once the season starts. Any more than that and I'm an upside down volcano.
It seems like those companies aren't in the limelight like Dead Down wind, HS Scents, No Scent, etc. They seem slightly less commercial and more about gettin' it done right. In the US.

I bought some pills like that a couple years ago, think they were called chlorophlage or something like that. I always forgot to take them so i said screw it...

Atsko makes some good quality products. That is the scent free wash I use the majority of the time, if I am not in the mood to make my own.

I was thinking about purchasing the enduraskin by redhead. Its not to pricey and is supposed to aid in scent protection. does anyone use these base layers?

I use Dead Down Wind Detergent, Bar of Soap, and Field Spray. I just did a test between the Dead Down Wind, Scent Killer 99% Supercharged, and Scent away. I found that the Dead Down Wind worked the best on not just human odors but all kinds of odors like smoke. The 99% Supercharged left a residue on all of my items that were not clothing or had some kind of absorbent quality to them. I recommend getting the Dead Down Wind Lotion too if you use the soap because it dries out your skin really bad.
As far as attractants I haven't decided yet but I know I am not going to be using Tinks this year. I have never seen deer come charging in because of it. Kinda leaning towards the Special Golden Estrus this year (probably the leafs that you hang).

I m gonna try the peroxide baking soda water and green soap mixture this year. I mixed some up last weekend and put what little bit I had of the primos earth spray in it. I made 3/4 of a gallon for next to nothing. smells just like the earth spray but not as strong.

I really like all of the Dead Down Wind products. I like to either hang my clothes out away from people and spray them down when the hunt is over and just before the hunt begins. Not real big on cover scents because I always seem to use to much and they give me away.

Use the wind to your advantage and climb as high as you can........I never get caught up in all the gimmicks. I'm not saying they don't deter human scent but, if your down wind of a deer there is no way your going to mask all your odor.....to the point of not being detected.

It doesn't hurt to increase your odds, but I hear you about the gimmicks. I do use them and have had great success with scent elimination. Wind is def a factor, but a lot of animals walk into the wind or circle down wind for detection so why not up your chances, or like you suggested up your height.
Happy Hunting! :)
