In Ontario we have w eek of a Controlled hunt that only so many hunters are drawn to hunt. The week was plain nasty with the weather, but I spent time in a stand over looking a corn feild in a finger of red pines that ran out 1/4 way across the feild. Monday was wet and the deer seemed to hold tight, but Tuesday morning was a quiet still morning and using my wind check allowed me to see the breeze was next to nil and what float of air there was it flowed out to a field off on mu back side. Chances afre the deer would not wind me this morning. As the lighted sky turned pink, I heard down the figer a rustling that sounded like rubbing. I pulled out the Brawler and rattling bag and started a sequence with rattling and followed with some long grunting like two bucks pushing each other. After about 40-60 seconds of this I hung up the bag and called and watched. Within 2 minutes here comes down the corn field edge is this buck with his ears back and stopping every 20 yards and looking for the buck that was tending his area. As he worked his way to a small opening between two trees I loud MAAAA and he stopped for a perfect shot with the Remington slug gun.
Now that the edge is off , I'm out looking for a wall hanger this week heading to the far side of Southern Ontario to give the 270 WSM a try.
Good Luck to all,
