Default redneck boat help

okay fellas. Ive been tired of looking at over priced johnboats and basshounds and have decided to make my own boat.

My buddy and I went to cherokee lake the other day and there was the coolest little hommade boat tied to a dock. It was a little 2 man boat (which is all i need). It was made from a couple pieces of plywood, 2X4's, some carpet, bungie cords, styrofoam, and 2 boat seats which you can purchase at walmart.

it sounds redneck as S***.. it is. But i have all the supplies except for the styrofoam. I have been looking online and that S*** is expensive! does anyone know where i can find some decently priced styrofoam!

Palmettoswamp said he was getting syrofoam backstops at tractor supply for free. He said you have to ask for them. I think he said they pack the trailers with them. Good luck man.

I just had another thought. Im not sure how cost effective it would be or if the stuff floats, but what about the spray foam in a can? I read the description and it says water resistant. Also it says one can equals 19 tubes of caulk. the cheapest can is $3.83

I was looking at making wood boats a while back. One guy sewed the seems together with wire and fiberglassed over. Then he put another coat of something or other over the whole hull to waterproof it. I cant remember the site i seen that one, but it was for a bigger boat with a bigger motor on it.

Default lots o foam

I was over by Grand lake the other day, I would have stopped and asked but I was riding with my Boss.

Anyway drove by a boat doc repair place, there was tons of huge pieces of old foam in a pile, might be a place to check if you have any big lakes near where you live.
