If you haven't tried the Killar Pipes and/or the Screamin' Cottontail give them a shot. They are dynamite calls and easy to use.

I had 2 hours of Fun using all three of the Howlers from the Howler Pack Last night. You can get some really great sounds out of these 3 Calls, but they do Operate a little different than most open reed calls. Make sure that you place your lips all the way to the front of the Reed as Instructed or you will not get the best sounds, I believe Quaker Boy and Pro Staff Member Dave did this to help the New Callers make the Correct Pitches on these Calls (Just My Opinion...Well more of a Guess). The Pup Howler and Female Howler do allow a little fluctuation on the Open Reed Calls with the Pup Howler being the most flexible due to the size of the Reed on the Soundboard.
First off, most open reed calls will allow you to use the soundboard all the way to the tip- these calls require correct mouth and lip location for the most part. You can use most of the Reed on the Pup Howler no problem due to the size of the reed and it can also be done quite easily for the Female Howler. However the Alpha Howler requires accurate mouth and lip placement (Sometimes even some pressure from your Teeth) for it to Perform at its Best. Incorrect Placement can make some awful sounding "Cracks" in the sound as well as make you sound like a Moose crossed with an Elk...Just make sure you have your lips pressed up against the "lip" that is raised up on the Cone where it meets the Reed and Control your Air Pressure- These Calls do not Need a lot of air. This is Great for those long Interrogation Howls but an experienced howler should already know to use their Diaphragm when calling so they don't run out of air- or at least not as quick! This is another feature that Quaker Boy and Dave developed to help the New Caller be more Successful at using these Calls (IMO and Guessing Again). The Alpha Howler does Make a Great Deep Raspy Bark that will drive all the big Dogs Nuts. If there were no Time Factors Last night there would be a Nice Photo to go along with this Post as I had 5 Different Packs Responding to my Alpha Challenge Howls mixed with Female Invitations. I even through in a few Ki-Yis that I did on the Pup Howler. After 2 Great Hours of Communicating I had One Alpha Male that Started Out about 3/4 of a mile or so away come all the way in to less than 250 yards. He was still Deep in the Safety of Thick Pines and at the rate that he was coming in I knew it would have taken at least another 1/2 of an hour just to get him close enough to see him, so with time not on my side I had to make the tough decision to Head Out. I should have stayed but at least I got in some good time with these howlers and found them to be very nice sounding calls. For Anyone who is Interested in Buying these Calls I can tell you this: There are Way More Pros than there are Cons. I highly Recommend this Pack and found it to be a Great Addition to my Collection of Predator Calls! Hunt Hard and Be Safe! ![]() Tyson |

I was able to get out for a day and call some coyotes with the Howler Pack and the Super Screamer. I also am wearing the NEW outline buster I just got in my prostaff delivery. It was very easy to use. Seemed to work well.[IMG]

Great Work Dave!
You helped to Develop the Howler Pack so I would like to ask you a question. I left the pup and female calls in my hunting jacket and when I pulled them out they did not work. My Alpha Howler was doing the same thing when I pulled that out of my backpack. I ended up pulling the soundboard, reed, and the "lip" upper piece out. I cleaned them up and reinserted them into the tube. The Pup came right back, the female came back OK, and the Alpha still won't make any sound. Do you know how to fix this Problem? It happened with the Alpha Call in the Field a couple of times as the Reed had slid to one side or the other between howls which inhibited sound and I had to take my glove off to rearrange it. Do you have an Easy fix or Tip that could Help me Out? Thanks in Advance Dave (Or Anyone Else)! Tyson |

You may have to turn the reed over. Give that a try first then you may have to move the reed in or out to get the sound you are looking for.

The upside of having such a thin reed is the ease of use. You will not find an easier howler to use. The downside is they do have to be taken care of. You can't get away with just throwing them in a bag. Leave them on a lanyard, and hang it up someplace after using it.
