Tru Oil is the stuff i'm talking about. It is cheap, and makes a beautiful finish
if you do a couple of extra tricks that the instructions don't mention. If you are going to be in Ocala anytime soon, a trip to Harbor Freight will get you the little tidbits you need for super cheap.

I'm looking forward to seeing the project. I myself hand sand the wood with four different grits of sandpaper, so your technique may add a new angle to the steps I take.

Sorry I missed this earlier.

Is this the old style Ruger 44 mag auto-loader with the tube magazine or the new one with the 10/22 style mag?

The former rifle is a CLASSIC!!! I wish I had one. I wanted one of the newer ones, the Deerfield, but there was always something I wanted more. By the time I got to seriously considering it, Ruger had yanked them off the market.

The 44 Mag makes an excellent deer cartridge for close-in stalking or tree-stand work. My buddy used to have one for his hog hunting. It was a bit light to take down a worked-up porker, but as long as he made a good first shot the boar laid down as good as any rifle.

Good luck. We need pictures!!!

I bought some ammo today and tried to cycle some rounds through and every one of them kept jamming. The lifter would bring the round up but it would get caught in there all crooked. From what ive gathered im missing a cartridge guide plate. Thats what the two screw holes were on top of the reciever. They held the guide plate in place. Having a hard time finding the part...
